Up On Sylvia vs. Mir Not Happening
In yesterday's news update, we brought to you the glorious news that
a rumored bout for UFC 74 in August between Tim Sylvia and Frank Mir
would NOT be taking place. Today, Ken Kizer, Executive Director of
the Nevada State Athletic Commission, offered up a very interesting
response to the notion that the NSAC denied the fight from taking
place.
"That
fight has not been presented to me, and thus no ‘denial’
has been made. I was asked about the match-up by a reporter and said
I would have a hard time approving that fight unless I see a quality
win from Mr. Mir first. However, I will keep an open mind."
Please,
Mr. Kizer, we'd all prefer if you kept a closed mind on this one.

Marc Ratner of the UFC has already responded by saying they'd love
to run either Nashville or Memphis.

On Tuesday, it was reported by MMAonTap that Steve Bruno is a late
scratch from the 6/12 UFC Fight Night Card. He was set to take on
Chad Reiner in a prelim bout. It was also to be Bruno's debut with
the company. As of now, no replacement opponent has been named for
Reiner, who is coming off a loss to Josh Burkman in his UFC debut
back in January.

With one fight still remaining on his current UFC deal, Sean Salmon
announced on his UFCJunkie.com blog that he will be taking a leave
of absence from the promotion. He cited a need to improve his overall
game by fighting in "smaller" promotions. The announcement
comes on the heels of his loss to Alan Belcher at UFC 71, which was
preceeded by a devastating KO loss to Rashad Evans in the main event
of UFC Fight Night 8. According to Salmon himself, the timetable for
his return is 2-4 fights/6-8 months.

According to a Fight Network report, six fighters were tested for
performance enhancing drugs following UFC 71 - Chuck Liddell, Rampage
Jackson, Josh Burkman, Karo Parisyan, Belcher, and Salmon. All of
them came back clean. Test results for illicit drugs have not come
back as of yet.

Filming for the Season Six of The Ultimate Fighter will begin later
this week. It should start airing by September, with coaches Matt
Serra and Matt Hughes squaring off for the Welterweight Title on the
season finale. That probably won't come until December. According
to Dana White, whomever wins that fight will have their first title
defense against the winner of GSP vs. Josh Koscheck, which takes place
in August (UFC 74).
