Frank Shamrock Interview Recap from PKW LIVE 11/1/06

In a recent “dark” broadcast of PKW Live, Jake Digman & Kyle Ross had a chat with MMA legend Frank Shamrock. Here is a quick recap of what you missed:

1. Phil Baroni

Frank said that he is ready to go, but now all of a sudden Phil doesn’t want to take this fight. Frank said he is still training 100%, but Phil backed out because of personal reasons. Shamrock went onto say that he thinks that Baroni is avoiding him, but he’s not going to let up. Frank knows the fans want this fight to happen and so does he

2. Strike Force on Dec. 8th

Frank will still be attending the event, but he won’t be fighting. He invited all the fans to come out and check the show, because it’s still going to be an exciting night of action. He encouraged the fans to support the promotion, because MMA in the United States needs an alternative to UFC.

3. UFC/Dana White

Frank discussed the proposed fight between Strike Force promoter Scott Coker & UFC President Dana White. According to Shamrock’s challenge, if Dana beats Scott then Frank will return to fight in the UFC for free, but if Coker defeats Dana, then Chuck Liddell would have to fight in Shamrock’s promotion for free. Frank then joked that this fight will most likely never happen and went on to say that we can all but rule out Frank Shamrock ever returning to the UFC. Frank discussed how he disagrees with the way the UFC conducts it’s business practices, from Dana White trying to make himself the face of MMA to the low payouts the fighters receive.

4. Over saturation in MMA

He mentioned that the only reason there is an over saturation is because there aren’t enough good fighters to fill all the available slots. The UFC has pretty much all of their guys tied up to exclusive contracts and their aren’t that many top level free lance fighters out there to fill all the slots that are starting to pop up. That’s why we see the same guys fighting for different promotions.

5. Video updates on FrankShamrock.com

Frank said that he watched the popularity of sites like YouTube and made the decision that this was the route to go. This way he can keep the fans updated on what’s going on with Frank Shamrock, but also do it in an entertaining way. They plan to add even more videos to FrankShamrock.com in the future.

6. Beatdown in Bakersfield

Frank discussed the start of his new production company entitled MMA Entertainment and the plans he has for the company. He wants this to be a fighters-first promotion. Shamrock encouraged everyone to check out their first event called Beatdown in Bakersfield on November 17 at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, IL. Frank said this is going to be unlike any other MMA company we’ve see thus for, so the fans really should check it out.

7. Frank Shamrock’s Future

Frank insists that he is staying busy and active. He splits his time between his own career, his new venture MMA Entertainment, and training fighters at Shamrock Martial Arts Academies, which he intends to expand even more in 2007.
